The Between State
When Jeff, a computer software professional, repeatedly awakes inside realistic dreams in which he’s inside the mind of a young woman, he struggles to find a rational explanation. The woman, he discovers, is real, and he becomes an unwilling time traveler periodically thrust two years into his past, where he experiences her life through her senses.
An expert logician, he battles with the limitations of logic in his efforts to uncover the explanation for why he has become immersed in this new, supranatural world. Does he have a role to play in helping this woman escape her troubled past and move towards a future of serenity and hope?
Our Calling
When Jeff finds himself in the mind of a cocaine producer in the jungles of South America, and then in the mind of a wealthy Colombian businessman clearly connected to the drug trade, he wonders why. Is he supposed to try to stop these drug runners or should he stay safe and stay out of it?
But he and his girlfriend, Mindi, don’t appear to have a choice. When lucid dreaming, they’re continually thrust into the minds of people determined to continue to flood America with highly addictive drugs, and Jeff can’t help but wonder how the snippets of information they discover while out-of-body fit together.
Drawn to this new calling and aided by some nameless support, Jeff and Mindi learn how to astral travel and develop their lucid-dreaming skills to gain some control over the direction of their mind leaps.
Can they, with only psychic skills, unravel a sophisticated system of drug importation and distribution and bring those running it to justice? And can they stay safe when they’re dealing with ruthless drug overlords, one of which has some psychic skills of his own?
From Beyond
Jeff and Mindi did not know from whom, or where their psychic gifts originated. At first, the arrival of the supernatural talents threatened Jeff’s world-view of pure logic and the scientific-method. He struggled to accept the reality of his new skills, but with experience, he learned to use them well.
With their previous life-threatening adventure over, and no distracting missions to accomplish, the couple anticipated beginning an ordinary life together—of having the lifestyle of which they both dreamed; a family and normality.
However, they received a visit from a ‘being from beyond’ who appeared to be the source of their psychic skills and lucid dream abilities. Their journey continues as they confront this unlikely stranger who enlisted the couple to save the planet from global warming and nuclear destruction. They didn’t ask to be recruited for this assignment.
With this overwhelming task thrust upon them, are they prepared to confront such responsibility? Is this the ultimate reason they have been given skills beyond that of an average human? Must they accept this enormous obligation to save humanity? What if they refuse? What revelations are in store for the couple?

Author Bio
Born to a military family, Joseph A White Jr lived and travelled world-wide, gained a Business/Psychology degree, and chose the Pacific Northwest of the United States to settle, raise his family and pursue his careers – first in telecommunications, then environmental, health and safety education. His interest in science fiction blossomed in his teens while doing research for an essay for a class assignment. The mystery of what takes place in our minds while asleep, during meditation, and yoga provided the foundation for his Between State Series.
